SUPROFILM® Adhesion Barrier
Macromolecular Polysaccharide |
 |
DESCRIPTION
Suprofilm® Adhesion Barrier is a sterile, absorbable, biocompatible, adhesion barrier composed of macromolecular polysaccharide and is a natural material.
INDICATIONS
- Used in abdominal, pelvic, gynaecology or urology procedures
- Prevents the incidence, extent and severity of postoperative adhesions between abdominal wall and the underlying viscera such as small bowel, bladder, stomach and between the uterus and surrounding structures such as tubes and ovaries, large bowel and bladder.
- Acts as a haemostatic agent. Suprofilm® Adhesion Barrier has the highest volume for Haemoglobin compared to othet adhesion barrier products and stops bleeding in the surgical site.
APPLICATION
- Acts as a temporary absorbable barrier separating viscous tissue surfaces.
- Starts to repair adhesiogenic tissues as soon as it is applied to their surface.
- Within 12 to 24 hours after placement, adhesions are prevented within the abdominopelvic cavity
- Within two weeks, the film becomes a gel (glucosamine monomer) which is absorbed and gradually expelled from the body within 2 weeks
ADVANTAGES
- Suprofilm® material can be cut easily to the required size and shape
- Suprofilm® is applicable for adhesiogenic tissue
- Suprofilm® can bond to tissue with no suture requirement
- Suprofilm® can be used on both its surfaces
- Suprofilm® is visible in-situ (transparent blue in colour)
- There is no necessity for haemostasis. Suprofilm® can be used in bloody or watery surfaces
- Suprofilm® has no chemical or animal originated raw material. Due to its pure natural content there are not any limitations for application
- Suprofilm® can be used on pregnant women
- Suprofilm® does not affect wound healing on adhesiogenic tissue
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
- Suprofilm® Adhesion Barrier should be applied immediately prior to incision closure
- Suprofilm® Adhesion Barrier does not need a dry surface before application
- Open the PVC plate from its tyvek cover immediately prior to application
- Remove Suprofilm® from outer sterile pouch, then from inner pouch
- Where applicable, cut membrane to desired size and shape
- When necessary, facilitate entry into the incision by slightly curving or arching the film
AFTER PLACEMENT
- Care should be taken not to disturb the Suprofilm® Adhesion Barrier once it is placed on the tissue
- Do not suture the Suprofilm® Adhesion Barrier in place
- Incision should be closed accordingly
HOW SUPPLIED
Suprofilm® Adhesion Barrier is packed within a double sterile pouch in a PVC plate which is closed by tyvek cover. Suprofilm® Adhesion Barrier is sterilized with Ethylene Oxide (EO).
